Why Chesterton? A Dad’s Perspective
When I first started on my journey with Chesterton I was running away from something not running towards something. I had seen my three older children go through a mixed bag of homeschooling, public schooling, and hybrid schooling and was trying to figure out what was going to be the best option for our 7th grade son when he got to High School. My wife heard about Chesterton from a friend and I agreed to find out more because I was hoping there was a something better out there. After attending an informational meeting, reading more about the school on the internet, and watching a couple of their videos I was hooked! I no longer saw Chesterton as the lesser of evils, but instead as something I truly wanted for my son.
I mean how can you argue with principles like “curriculum through the lens of Catholicism", “students are armed with the faith“, and “every teacher knows the faith, loves the faith, and wants to teach the faith“? In case it isn’t obvious, one of the biggest draws for me is the school’s unwavering commitment to teaching and living out our Catholic faith. My practical side appreciates the fact that the school is affordable. My intellectual side likes the academic rigor of a classical curriculum. I know my son is excited about the idea of playing sports and having the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. But to me those are all things he can get at a number of other schools (minus maybe the affordability).
What I want for him is a place that he can be unapologetically Catholic. Where the Catholic faith, Catholic traditions, and Catholic principles are not just be taught in a class, be are lived and woven into every class. I honestly feel that what he is going to get at Chesterton and as a parent I couldn’t be more excited and hopeful to be a part of it.
